The short version
- Feed mills must sign an ASC Feed Licensing Agreement within three months of gaining certification before using any ASC trademarks or claims.
- The ASC logo can only be displayed on physical labels for feed produced under the Segregation Production Model; logo display is strictly prohibited on Mass Balance feed packaging.
- Both production models require displaying the mandatory ASC claim statement and the unique ASC Site Identification number on product labels and sales invoices.
- Feed mills receive a 25 percent discount on annual licensing fees if at least 20 percent of their total certified feed sales volume is produced under the Segregation Production Model.
Executing the ASC Feed Licensing Agreement
To make formal claims or use ASC trademarks on feed packaging, invoices, websites, or promotional materials, feed manufacturing companies must execute a formal ASC Feed Licensing Agreement. Under Criterion 3.3 and clause 21 of the certification requirements, this agreement must be signed within three months of receiving a positive certification decision.
Signing a single licensing agreement covers all certified feed manufacturing sites operated by the company. Upon certification, each certified feed mill is assigned a unique ASC Site Identification number in the format SXXXXXXX by its Conformity Assessment Body.
Labeling Rules for Feed Packaging
Product labeling requirements depend directly on whether the feed is manufactured under the Segregation Production Model or the Mass Balance Production Model:
- Segregation Production Model Packaging: Feed produced under the Segregation Model contains exclusively eligible ingredients. Packaging labels may optionally display the official ASC logo. Labels must include the distinct feed name registered on the certificate schedule, the unique ASC Site ID number, and the mandatory claim: ASC compliant feed produced under the Segregation Production Model.
- Mass Balance Production Model Packaging: Feed manufactured under the Mass Balance Model may contain a physical mixture of eligible and non-eligible ingredients. Because individual bags cannot guarantee physical segregation, displaying the ASC logo on Mass Balance feed packaging is strictly prohibited. However, packaging labels must state the ASC Site ID number and the mandatory claim: ASC compliant feed produced under the Mass Balance Production Model.
- Label Approval via MyASC: Before printing or applying packaging labels, feed mills must submit label artwork templates to the ASC Licensing Team via the MyASC digital portal and obtain written approval.
- The unique ASC Site Identification number of the producing feed mill.
- The specific production model applied for each line item (Mass Balance or Segregation).
- The registered distinct feed name for products sold under the Segregation Production Model.
- Mandatory Website Disclosures: Any online display of the ASC logo must link directly to a prominent disclosure page on the company website. This page must detail the number of certified feed mills relative to total operational mills per country, list all ASC Site ID numbers with direct links to the ASC Find a Feed Mill online database, and specify which production models are utilized at each facility.
- Promotional Material Approval: Draft copies of printed marketing materials, exhibition banners, or corporate brochures featuring ASC trademarks must be submitted for approval via the MyASC portal prior to printing.
